Custom dentures are artificial teeth that replace natural teeth lost due to decay or injury. Replacement teeth have been around for centuries and are available in several types. In the olden days and even now in some countries, people opt for gold teeth not only for chewing but also as status/ style statements. The modern day (and affordable) dentures are made of acrylic material and give you near natural looks.
Then why of Dentures and Implants:
Your kids’ and family dental care specialist may have no option to recommend other than dentures if the teeth broken beyond repair due to injury or severe decay. In such conditions, root canal treatment or overdenture may not work for you. In rare cases, for cosmetic or health reasons you may need removal of misaligned teeth which are replaced with dentures appropriate for you.
Types of dentures:
The kind of denture that is right for you depends upon the number of teeth to be replaced, condition of the abutment (neighboring teeth) as well as your comfort level.
- Removable partial dentures (RPDS) are useful if only a few teeth need to be replaced and neighboring teeth are strong enough to support the new teeth.
- Complete dentures on the other hand are necessary when you are missing all or most of the teeth. The dentist may remove the remaining one or tooth so that full dentures can be fitted.
- Temporary immediate complete dentures: After removal of teeth, gums take some months to heal. The immediate full dentures serve as a stop-gap arrangement and help you to eat and speak until permanent dentures can be fitted.
